A pro-lifer believes that her state's uptick in abortion would be much higher were it not for pregnancy help organizations and programs.

According to statistics released by the state, abortions increased by nearly 1,100 in 2021. Reports show 33,206 abortions took place in Pennsylvania in 2021, while 2020 saw a total of 32,123.

Maria Gallagher of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation tells AFN chemical abortions were shown to be the method of preference, which she finds especially concerning.

"With these chemical abortions, women are left on their own to abort their children," she points out.

That also means they are left on their own to suffer the consequences of that method, which can be severe and even fatal for the woman.

"The Department of Health states that 322 reports of complications from abortions were recorded in 2021," the pro-lifer relays. "That is an increase of nearly 35% over the previous year's totals."

So as the other side is trying to make Pennsylvania a magnet for abortion-minded women, Gallagher says this is a public health problem that deserves serious attention.

"The abortion industry is advertising for people to come from out of state to Pennsylvania to take the lives of their innocent children," she reports. "It's an appalling situation, and we want to see an end to Pennsylvania being an abortion center for Northeastern United States."

That is why the Pregnancy and Parenting Support Program, administered by Real Alternatives, is providing comprehensive counseling and support for women facing unexpected pregnancies, and it is why the many pregnancy resource centers throughout the state offer everything from diapers to day care referrals, and from mentoring to maternity clothes to pregnant women in need.
