Some good, some bad in midterm ballot measures

Some good, some bad in midterm ballot measures

Before Tuesday’s midterm election, American Family Action compiled a ballot measure guide listing coming votes in different states.

Many were successful, and AFA Action posted updates on X.

Dr. Jameson Taylor, of AFA Action, told American Family News the successful ballot measures are unusual after the "blue wave" helped Democrats.

"I think an argument can be made that what happened yesterday were voters rejecting Trump, rejecting in a sense Trump's personality," he observed.

What the voters did not reject, he added, was conservative issues.

The most prevalent issue — on the ballot in 11 states — dealt with election integrity, much of it in the form of voter identification.

According to The Associated Press, Arkansas, Kansas, South Dakota and West Virginia voted in favor of a constitutional amendment allowing votes only for U.S. citizens. Alaska voted the same, addressing the issue by amending state law instead of the state constitution.

Ohio and North Carolina also passed measures to include voter ID requirements in their state constitutions, with Nevada approving a similar amendment.

"Even in a blue tsunami, voter ID was able to pass with landslide margins," End Wokeness posted on X.

Not all news was good. California and Colorado voted against their voter ID measures, and as The Hill reports, Arizona voted against a constitutional amendment covering both voter ID and citizenship voting requirements.

Girls’ sports

Another issue closely watch in five states were measures protecting female sports.

OutKick reports that Washington is likely to pass Initiative 638, which would have K-12 athletes compete on teams according to their biological sex. Verification of a student's gender from a healthcare professional would be required for female sports.

If passed, it will become a historic first for two reasons: lawmakers haven’t addressed this issue in a blue state before, nor have voters approved such a state law.

Colorado Newsline reports Colorado is also likely to pass both its propositions that will separate school sports by biological sex and probit gender mutilation surgery on minors.

Nebraska and Arizona have also passed similar measures separating athletes by their biological sex, according to Yahoo News.

Unfortunately, The New York Times shows the overwhelming support of Vermont's Proposal 4 regarding equal protection of individuals' rights, including sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, which can indirectly affect female sports.

Abortion

Idaho, Missouri, Nevada and Virgina voted on the matter of life and abortion rights.

Both Virginia and Nevada passed measures making abortion a constitutional right, but Idaho did not approve the expansion of abortion within their borders, reports EWTN News. However, Missouri rejected a proposal that would have rolled back abortion rights established in their state.

The Patriot Oasis posted on X that liberal women are celebrating Democrat wins by declaring "abortion is so back," criticizing the women for calling "MAGA a cult while they celebrate the murder of innocent children by the thousands."
