Stutzman: Republicans have great shot of winning midterms because of better candidates

A U.S. representative is positive about the GOP chances in the midterm elections.

Early voting continues across the country as the November 3 election day gets closer.

According to RealClearPolitics, Democrats are leading Republicans by several percentage points in the 2026 general congressional vote polls. A RealClearPolitics poll average has Democrats at 50.4% while Republicans are at 42.1%

However, Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Indiana) is of a different mindset, saying on the “Jenna Ellis in the Morning” program on American Family Radio (AFR) that the Republican Party is focused on winning the midterms in two weeks.

“I think we still have a great shot of winning because we have better candidates. If you look at Minnesota, why is Minnesota trending towards Michelle Tafoya, who’s running for Senate? You look at Michigan, and Michigan is trending towards Mike Rogers, who’s running against (Abdul) El-Sayed,” Stutzman states.

He believes this is the time that Republicans are paying the most attention toward candidates.

“You see the candidates that are on the other side, and I think, as we start getting closer to the election, most conservative and Republicans pay more attention towards the last couple of weeks before the election day on who they’re going to vote for and kind of sift through the noise,” Stutzman says. “I still think we've got a great chance of winning.”

The headwinds, he says, are against the Republicans in the House of Representatives.

“It should be a bloodbath, but I'm just not convinced that it’s going to be. You look at some of our House races in states like Washington, D.C., the Democrat is running like she's a Republican out there,” Stutzman states.

He thinks it comes down to state by state.

“… because in Indiana, we’ve got a strong economy. Yes, we have higher food prices. Yes, we’ve got a bit higher gas prices, but we’ve been able to suspend the gas tax in Indiana because we’ve got a balanced budget and surpluses,” Stutzman says.

According to him, Republicans need to focus on the national debt and deficit.
