Ohio Republicans refute Newsweek's 'lame attempt' to manufacture party's collapse

Despite a report about Donald Trump's falling poll numbers, a tea party activist in Ohio isn't betting against the president's ability to turn out voters.

Republican National Committee Press Secretary Natalie Baldassarre says Newsweek reporting that certain lawmakers in the party are removing images of President Trump and references to him from their campaign websites because some pollsters have released low approval ratings is "a lame attempt to manufacture a Republican collapse."

Republican Senator Jon Husted (pictured above), who is reportedly running behind in a special election to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate, mentions in the article that the president will be campaigning alongside him in The Buckeye State over the weekend.

Pointing out that Husted's campaign has been clear that it is in no way removing references to Trump on his website, Tom Zawistowski, president of the Ohio-based We the People Convention, says Ohio candidates Jon Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy are not shying away from Trump.

"The fact that he's coming this early leads me to believe he'll probably come back to Ohio right before the election and probably be in northwest Ohio to help with that House seat that Derek Merrin is running in and to continue to help Husted and Vivek," Zawistowski tells AFN. "I don't see any signs that Ohio candidates are shying away from Trump."

This weekend, he believes the president will be warning voters about the consequences they should expect if Democrats control Congress the last two years of his presidency.

"I think that's a winning message for our people," the conservative submits. "They don't ever want to go through what we went through with Trump being called into court and being attacked and impeached, so, I think it's a winning strategy."

When it comes to elections, Zawistowski says, "Trump can turn out people that nobody else can turn out."

"Never bet against Trump, because you're going to lose," he adds.
