Texas State Sen. Angela Paxton (R) has filed for divorce after accusing her husband of adultery. However, The Texas Tribune reports she told the Texas Federation of Republican Women to vote for GOP candidates “even if we're mad," likely referring to herself and her marriage.
Paxton is in a tight race with a liberal Democratic opponent, state Sen. James Talarico.
Polls show Talarico with a single-digit edge over Paxton, suggesting red-state Texas could flip blue and a wildly liberal senator could representThe Lonestar State.
The current race for the U.S. Senate seat, Angela Paxton emphasized, is about the seat and not a person.
Angela Paxton told the gathering of Republican women regarding the November midterms: “If you can’t vote for a Republican.. vote against their Democrat opponent. Look higher. There is more at stake than one person. Get the entire R Team across the winning line.”
This not the first time the Republican Party urged people to cast their votes toward them, despite any slight grievances.
In the first-ever Republican midterm convention, both Trump and Vice President JD Vance tried to appeal to the voters, with Vance urging people to recognize the administrations achievement and Trump asking people to vote as if he were running.
Cathie Adams, a former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, currently serves as second vice president of Eagle Forum. During the GOP primary, Adams was publicly critical of Paxton due to her personal conduct and supported Sen. John Cornyn.
With that primary in the past, and with Talarico poised to win the Senate seat, Adams, too, shares a similar view as Paxton's estranged wife.
“That's what we're looking at. Either we have Ken Paxton's votes or we have Talarico’s votes," she stresses. "We cannot, as Texans, move in the direction of Talarico."
Adams calls Angela Paxton "a brave lady" for understanding what's at stake for Texans and who will represent them on Capitol Hill.
"I commend her for making this statement and I could not agree with her more," Adams says.
