The legal ruling this week goes back to March, when President Trump signed an executive order to clamp down on voter fraud. That presidential order, which put U.S. states on notice to stop non-citizens from voting, also included new Postal Service regulations to track ballots through the mail.
All totaled, 23 states sued to challenge what they called an “unprecedented experiment” with the right to vote. They were rewarded with a quick win in federal court and now have won a ruling from the country’s highest court.
President Trump quickly lashed out at the high court and its right-leaning justices. “The Court’s inability and unwillingness to do the right thing for our Country will go down, in a very negative way, in the annals of History,” Trump wrote in a lengthy social media post Tuesday.
Quoting from the majority opinion, legal website Scotus Blog reported that Justice Brett Kavanaugh penned a one-paragraph concurrence with the majority. The U.S. Postal Service might have the authority to issue rules, he wrote, but “does not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule” before the November midterm elections.
Scotus Blog reported that the dissenting justices were Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas. Alito argued that some challengers to the new rule do not have a legal right to sue, known as standing, “while the remainder are pursuing a claim that this Court has recently called a ‘Hail Mary pass’ that ‘rarely succeeds.’”
Reacting to the ruling, Washington Times columnist Robert Knight pointed out President Trump is now 0-2 with landmark cases before the right-leaning high court.
“Between the court's blessing of birthright citizenship, which shouldn't be legal, and now this, it's no wonder the president is angry at his appointees,” Knight told AFN.
Knight is author of the 2022 book “Crooked: What really happened in the 2020 Election." The book describes how the Covid pandemic allowed rampant voter fraud with loose and lenient rules for mail-in ballots, street corner drop boxes, and ballot harvesting.
Regarding his book, Knight tells AFN that Democrats used the pandemic to “flood” election offices with fake ballots that helped Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump.
“To say that there's no mail-balloting fraud, or there's so little it wouldn't change an election, boggles the mind,” Knight complained.
A talking point among Democrats, however, is to call it “dangerous” for the country and “undemocratic” to question the 2020 election. To do so is to be called an "election denier."
Senate Democrats used that talking point this week, when FBI Director Kash Patel testified at a hearing and Democrats grilled him about a "rigged" 2020 election.
Hillary Clinton, however, has repeatedly stated Trump “stole” the election from her in 2016, with help from Russia, and she routinely calls him an “illegitimate” president.
Democrats, who are convinced Trump is a Hitler-like dictator, also accuse Trump of benefitting from a “stolen election” after defeating Kamala Harris in 2024.
Meanwhile, a day after his Senate testimony, Patel and the FBI announced the arrest of two illegal immigrants in Louisiana charged with illegally registering to vote.
