The mainstream media tried to downplay the significance of last week's first-ever midterm Republican convention in Dallas.
While some GOP lawmakers chose not to attend, many others did, including Sen. John Husted (R-Ohio). He addressed the gathering Wednesday night.
Husted was Ohio’s lieutenant governor before being appointed by Gov. Mike DeWine (R) to fill the remainder of JD Vance’s senate term since Vance was elected vice president.
Currently, Husted is in a tough election fight with former Sen. Sherrod Brown in a race that is considered a toss-up. A RealClearPolitics Poll Average has Brown leading Husted by 3.3 percentage points.
According to Spectrum News, Husted allied himself with President Donald Trump, who won Ohio by 12 points, by speaking at the convention. And WLWT5 reports that he has spoken about various tax cuts that have been helping the people of Ohio.
John Stover, president of Ohio Value Voters, thought they had retired Brown two years ago when Bernie Mareno soundly defeated him.
“Matter of fact, when a person looks at the election results in 2024, in that Senate race between Bernie Marino and Sherrod Brown, Bernie won virtually — I'm going to say — 67 to 72 counties, just overwhelming support,” Stover says.
Regarding the closeness of the polling, he has a positive outlook overall.
“I firmly believe that Independents and even some of the, what I would consider, conservative Democrats in Ohio, are very hesitant to state who they are going to be voting for…” Stover states.
This is because, he says, they realize that Democrats have been overtaken by a socialist mentality.
“So, I understand that it's close. I firmly believe that it's going to be all based upon turnout and Ohio Value voters. We're doing our part to see to it that we are exposing Sherrod Brown and the radical policies that he has embraced and supported,” Stover says.
