At the heart of today's cultural dysfunction is a disagreement on how to define "truth." Christians and conservatives might answer, "That which corresponds with reality." Meanwhile, atheists and the left say truth is a meaningless concept.
Frank Turek, a Biblical apologist, spoke on American Family Radio (AFR)’s “Today's Issues” program.
“There's a war on reality everywhere we turn now. We got people saying there's no truth, there's no God, that men can have babies, that math is racist and that reason is a tool of oppression,” Turek says.
He notes that others wrongly say truth is relative or different for each person.
“There's not my gravity or your gravity. There's not my logic or your logic. There's not my math or your math,” Turek mocks. “There's just math. There's just logic. There's just the truth.”
In his new book "The War on Reality," Turek says this argument is self-refuting.
“When people say there is no truth, I ask them, ‘Is that true? Is it true that there's no truth?’ Because it's a self-defeating or self-contradictory claim to say there's no truth,” Turek says.
Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk, who was friends with Turek, wrote the forward in later printings of the book.
“We live in a moment when much of our culture seems convinced that reality is negotiable. We are told that truth can be, in some instances, personalized and self-created,” she said. “No matter our wishes, fears, arguments, or even our grief, reality is simply unmoved and remains what it is…waiting for us to either acknowledge it or collide with it.”
Turek calls the debate a cultural Marxist mind virus that is toxic and only leads to conflict.
“This is madness, and it will never lead to peace. It's just going to lead to continual conflict. And so, you need to know what's going on, and that's what the book goes into, the war on reality,” Turek states.
