Even though President Trump and the Republican Party are fighting bad polling and a midterm tradition, when the minority party typically picks up seats, their best bet for maintaining power might be the Democrats.

CNN data analyst Harry Enten recently shared polling that shows the favorability rating for the Democratic Party is far deep in the negatives, with a minus-24 polling.

“We’re not talking down there underneath the Potomac [River]. We’re talking down there with the Titanic,” Enten, known for his animated segments, told the CNN audience.

Enten compared that upside down figure with 2018, the year of midterm elections during Trump’s first term. Democrats enjoyed a plus-1 polling among voters back then, he said.

Enten, who is known for delivering a fair political analysis, also described terrible approval ratings for President Trump and a generic ballot showing Democrats slightly ahead.

Democrats should be running away with the midterm elections, the analyst reasoned, but the GOP could hold on to both the House and Senate.

Enten and the negative polling got noticed by AFR show “The Core,” where show host Walker Wildmon called it “apocalyptic” for Democrats as the midterms approach.

“It's like an anvil right out of the Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon,” Bobby Roza, one of the show’s co-hosts, agreed.

Wildmon then played a second CNN clip, from its “NewsNight” program with show host Abby Phillip. She pointed to a CNN poll in which Zohran Mamdani, the first-term New York City mayor, is currently the most popular Democratic politician among voters.

Mamdani, a communist who calls himself a Democratic Socialist, has a net favorability of 54% among Democrats and liberal-leaning independent voters. His popularity surpassed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose favorability was 45%. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries came in third in the poll at 22%.

That CNN poll pretty much proves Mamdani, a leader in the Democratic Socialists of America, is also the current face of the Democratic Party, Wildmon said.

“This might bode well for a Democrat Party primary,” Wildmon observed, “but I can tell you one thing for sure: This will not bode well in the General Election.”

Back on CNN and Enten’s segment, the polling guru answered the “why” question behind that minus-24 polling. He shared a Washington Post poll in which 57% of voters said the Democratic Party is too liberal.

“They think the Democratic Party is out of the mainstream,” Enten concluded. “This a massive, massive problem.”
