Recently, the Islamic Academy of Alabama dropped its plans to relocate to the suburb of Hoover after residents and Tuberville convinced the city's planning and zoning commission to reject the request.
"The mission of Islamic Academy of Alabama’s richly blended community is to ensure that students positively contribute to our global society by providing an education which maximizes learning potential in a safe, stimulating, Islamic environment," its website states.
A standing-room-only crowd turned out for the meeting, many carrying home-made signs, to speak out against the Islamic school.
During an Infowars podcast Tuberville didn't pull any punches.
“Islam is not a religion. It's a cult, and their cult believes in totally different things than we believe in. They don't believe in Americans. Kill the infidel. Do away with everything that we believe in. They hate Christians. So, I'm saying they don't belong here. Let's pack them up and send them home."
Tuberville stands by the decision in Hoover.
“Tuberville is not only a bigot using George Wallace-era tactics against the American Muslim community. He is also a coward,” wrote the Council on American Islamic Relations.
“This is a common tactic intended to deprive Muslims of the First Amendment protections,” the group said.
When told that the radical CAIR called him an anti-Muslim extremist, he called it a "badge of honor."
"There's a small school that's a Muslim school in that area. They want a larger area where they can build a bigger school and bring in more young people to teach them the Muslim faith. I'm a senator right now, and I'm going to fight it. In a year, I'll be the governor. We're going to protect the people of Alabama. We're going to protect our Constitution, we're going to protect our state, we’re going to protect our country."
