Trump-Massie feud heats up with search for primary opponent

A conservative activist predicts Republican lawmaker Thomas Massie could be defeated by a primary challenger in his Kentucky district next year.

As an outspoken, libertarian-minded politician, Rep. Massie has continued to be a political thorn in the side of President Trump. That happened most recently when he said the president lacked the authority to authorize the B-2 attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“This is not Constitutional,” Massie, in an X post, wrote in response to a Trump post describing the “very successful” June 21 attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.

After that reply, Trump lashed out at the Kentucky lawmaker in a lengthy, 300-word post on Truth Social. In the post Trump called him a “simple minded grandstander” and predicted a “wonderful American Patriot” will challenge him next year.

Days before the attack, on June 17, Massie worked with a Democrat, Rep. Ro Khanna, to introduce a resolution that warned Trump about “unauthorized hostilities” against Iran.

Back in March, during a budget battle, Rep. Massie clashed with President Trump and was also threatened with a primary challenger. That came after he cast the only “no” vote among Republicans for a continuing resolution, known as the CR, AFN reported at the time.

“The CR is a UNIPARTY deal. It doesn’t fund the wall. It does fund USAID,” Massie wrote on X at the time.

Trump lashed out at the Kentucky rep, declaring that Massie should be primaried in 2026 and pledging to "lead the charge against him."

With the Massie-Trump feud now continuing into the summer, several close Trump aides have launched a new super PAC, Kentucky MAGA. It is devoted to defeating Massie in his GOP primary.

According to a related Daily Caller story, the powerful Israeli lobbying PAC, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is also actively looking for a GOP challenger to Massie.

Gary Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, grew up in Covington, Kentucky, which is located in Massie’s 4th Congressional District.

“I feel like I know the people there,” he shares. “This is not an area of Kentucky, or of the country, that's made up of war resisters or peaceniks. These are strong American patriots."

Because of that community, Bauer believes Massie is out of step with the 4th District and could be in trouble if the PAC finds a good GOP challenger.

If a good candidate challenges Massie, Bauer adds, “I think Mr. Massey may be looking for a commentator job on some TV station."
