Not money well spent: Texas GOP confident Soros-backed effort to turn state blue will fail

'Good luck.' That's the message from Texas Republicans amid news that a group backed by George Soros plans to pour millions into the state and turn it blue.

The effort to turn Texas blue was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, which says the 'Blue Texas' project "aims to organize volunteers, recruit candidates, and boost turnout for the 2026 midterm elections."

Democrats have not won statewide since 1994, and Abraham George, chairman for the Republican Party of the State of Texas, does not see Dems having success anytime soon.

"The Democrats never learn, because they spent, I believe a little over $420 million in the last cycle in Texas," George told AFN. "We spent probably a little over $300 million on our side and won by 14 points for President Trump and flipped 12 of 14 border counties."

George said the GOP also added 1.1 million Republican voters throughout the state of Texas.

"They can spend all the money in Texas," added George. "It helps our economy, so I'm fine with it, but they're not turning Texas blue."

The effort from Soros et al. comes at a time when people are fleeing blue states such as California and moving to Texas. Such transitions have resulted in some warnings that people are bringing their politics with them, but George is still not concerned.

"We've been contacting each and every one of them," said George. "We've got a new movers list, and we work with our county parties to get them connected with the chair, have them register, and say 'Let's talk about why you left California and how great Texas is,’ just common sense talking points."

George went on to say that many people are intentionally moving to Texas, not based on their work but personal beliefs.

"A lot of those people are very conservative," said George. "They're done with California, they're done with New York, and they're saying 'I'm out. I'm going to Texas.'"
