Colorado Republican Gabe Evans' resolution formally condemns Mohammed Sabry Soliman (pictured above) and his antisemitic terrorist attack on peaceful demonstrators for the release of the hostages held by Hamas.
"I'm here today because 15 people and a dog were burned by an individual with known jihadi leaning affiliations who was illegally present in the United States," he said on the House floor earlier this month.
His measure affirms that free and open communication between state and local law enforcement and their federal counterparts remains the bedrock of public safety and is necessary in preventing terrorist attacks.
"For me to now wake up on June 1st and see this tragic event that's happened, of course thoughts and condolences, but we have to do more," Evans implored. "We have to ask the question, 'Why does this continue to happen?'"
His resolution passed by a vote of 280-113, with 75 Democrats joining Republicans, but its mention of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by name likely scared off some 113 Democrats and prompted Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to launch an attack on Evans.
"He's not seriously concerned with combating antisemitism in America," Jeffries jabbed. "This is not a serious effort. This guy's going to be a one-term member of Congress. He's a complete and total embarrassment."
The Republican congressman fired right back.
"To be personally attacked by the minority leader of the other party for elevating that conversation, when 75 of his own members stood with me – that is the politicization of a tragedy," Evans said.
He maintains that Colorado's sanctuary laws opened the door for Soliman's attack.
