Democrats – at least some of them – seem ready to ride with Crockett

The Democratic Party has been very publicly floundering since the 2024 election and no one's quite sure who is going to take the reins. One name being tossed around has Republicans rather giddy with anticipation.

The Hill recently published an opinion piece from contributor Max Burns headlined: 'Jasmine Crockett can bring the Democratic Party back from the brink' – yes, that Jasmine Crockett, the one who critics say constantly says racist things and wallows in stolen victimhood.

“There has been no oppression for the white man in this country. We didn't ask to be here. We're not the same migrants that y'all constantly come up against. We didn't run away from home, we were stolen,” Crockett says.

The party needs to rethink recently announced podcast-based branding efforts, Burns writes.

“Democrats are about to blow millions of dollars on an almost certainly futile effort to build a ‘liberal Joe Rogan’ when they should be studying how Crockett’s unlikely path to Washington shaped her hugely popular message. As one of the few party figures who can speak with authenticity to the millions of voters who lost faith in the Democratic Party after 2024, Crockett should be playing a lead role in reshaping the party’s 2026 message. Do Democrats see what they have?” he writes.

Crockett told Roll Call magazine that Democrat voters are looking for authenticity.

AFR podcaster Sandy Rios says that's strange, coming from someone who only affected an urban accent after she won her seat in Congress.

But she says the Hill wouldn't have run the editorial if there wasn't a significant percentage of Democrats who might be open to her leadership.

“The Hill has been, for years, a really trusted – it's left-leaning -- but it's been a trusted source of information. They usually print pretty accurate things.

Given that, Rios says Crockett must have a shot at leading the Democrat Party.

“This editorial that states that Jasmine Crockett is the future of the Democratic Party, I guess, really, you might have to say that that's an accurate observation.”

She says the possibility has Republicans licking their chops for the midterms, since Crockett seems to be the poster child for what voters ran away from in 2024.

“It would absolutely be malpractice if the Republicans lose this election,” Rios said.
