EPIC City is the name of the planned Islamic community northeast of Dallas that would include 1,000 houses, a mosque, an Islamic school, and retail shops among other things.
EPIC is the acronym for East Plano Islamic Center, one of the largest mosques in North City.
Members from that mosque formed a corporation named Community Capital Partners to oversee the EPIC City developments.
Interviewed on the “Will Cain Show” on Fox News, Gov. Abbott pointed out ground has not been broken – and might not be broken – due to numerous issues now being addressed by numerous state agencies.
“In the promotion process, what we found are allegations of illegality,” the Governor said. “And those are being investigated by the Texas Rangers, by other authorities in the state of Texas, so much so that the original promotion of this project had to be changed and we believe changed because of illegal conduct in the past."
As far as permits to begin construction, Abbott said those are now in doubt, too, because of questions being raised by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and allegations EPIC City violates the Texas Fair Housing Act.
AFN previously reported the U.S. Department of Justice is conducting its own investigation after Sen. John Coryn asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to scrutinize the planned development for religious discrimination and violations of federal law.
Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general, is also investigating the development for violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Policies Act.
