At the Texas Capitol, female athlete Payton McNabb urges Texas legislators to support two companion bills that support women.

Texas lawmakers are standing for simple truth

The Lone Star State is close to officially recognizing the differences between a man and a woman.

As society continues to blur the lines between fantasy and God's established truth, Megan Benton, strategic policy associate for Texas Values, says lawmakers are responding accordingly.

In her state, Representative Ellen Troxclair (R) has introduced House Bill 229, otherwise known as the Women's Bill of Rights.

"It allows for there to be a definition in our statute that protects women and their spaces," Benton details.

The measure amends state government code to define the following terms:

  • "boy" means a child of the male sex;
  • "father" means a parent of the male sex;
  • "female" and "woman" mean an individual whose biological reproductive system is developed to produce ova;
  • "girl" means a child of the female sex;
  • "male" and "man" mean an individual whose biological reproductive system is developed to fertilize the ova of a female;
  • "mother" means a parent of the female sex; and
  • "sex" means an individual's biological sex, either male or female.

"This is a great bill, and we're super excited about it," Benton tells AFN.

The measure passed its third reading on Saturday and has since been approved by the Texas House. It is now under review by a committee in the state Senate.

"We are not quite to the governor's desk yet, but we are making progress," says Benton.

She thinks the proposal is unique in the sense that it is so simple.

"All we're doing is defining what a man and what a woman is," the conservative summarizes. "We're in a place where apparently that's necessary."

Though she is surprised that society has gotten to that point, Benton is grateful for the opportunity to stand up for truth.

"I'm grateful that the Texas Legislature is working to do the same," she says, "and I'm thankful for Representative Troxclair and the state of Texas for taking a stand and saying we're going to define this once and for all."

The Senate companion bill is SB 240, the Texas Women's Privacy Act.
