Dem fundraiser, tied to Chinese spy agency, raised cash for Boston mayor

Boston’s controversial mayor Michelle Wu, now running for a second term, is being tied to a campaign supporter who has been identified as an intelligence agent for the Chinese Communist Party.

Michelle Wu’s 2021 campaign for mayor was helped by a prominent Boston businessman, Gary Yu, who raised more than $300,000 for the then-city council member who was seeking the city’s top post.

Now, thanks to a Daily Caller investigation, Yu has been outed as an official with the United Front Work Department, an intelligence agency overseen by China’s communist-run Central Committee.

According to the exclusive story by The Daily Caller, it somehow found an online document written in Mandarin in which Yu – real name Yu Guoliang – is named as an “overseas committee member.”

Yu, Gary Yu

The story, written by senior investigator reporter Philip Lenczycki, goes into great detail to thoroughly tie Yu Guoliang to Chinese intelligence and to its stated mission to recruit sources in the U.S., especially in a search for experts on artificial intelligence.

Guoliang is also a prominent leader in New England Chinese American Alliance, or NECAA, the group that fundraised for Wu in 2021.

Wu is currently seeking a second term in the Democrat-dominated city but is being challenged by fellow Democrat John Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner.

The non-partisan primary election is Sept. 9.

Wu is famous for, among other things, giving a list of 15 political enemies to Boston police, then blaming police when the list was made public.

The list included a city council candidate, members of a grassroots watchdog group, and a police sergeant who was fired for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.

C.J. Doyle, who leads Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, says Wu is unfortunately well-known as a far-left liberal politician.

Beyond that, the allegation a trained Chinese agent might have used campaign fundraising to penetrate her political circle is much more troubling, he says, especially since the CCP is known for recruiting assets in business and politics.

“I think it's very disturbing,” he tells AFN. “This really cuts across ideologies, party lines, and political associations.”

According to the Daily Caller story, Yu was also able to woo Diana DiZoglio, the Massachusetts auditor, after donating $3,000 to her 2021 campaign. The Chinese agent was given a role in her transition team and was later appointed by DiZoglio to a state commission, the Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission.
