Ramaswamy’s governor's bid catches attention of 'entrenched forces' in Ohio politics

An Ohio Tea Party leader considers Vivek Ramaswamy running for governor as big as Donald Trump running for president.

The former Republican presidential candidate, Ramaswamy has officially announced that he is running for Ohio governor, a move that comes just over month after he stepped down as co-leader of DOGE, the government efficiency effort in the Trump White House.

During his announcement speech in Cincinnati, Ramaswamy said he wants to do for Ohio, what Trump is doing for the nation.

"I am honored to announce that I am running to be the next governor of a great state at the heart of the greatest nation known to mankind. The state where I was born and raised. The state where Apoorva and I raised our two sons, a state whose best days are still ahead. I am honored to announce my candidacy to serve as the next Governor of the State of Ohio."

Born in Cincinnati to Indian immigrant parents, Ramaswamy holds a biology degree from Harvard and a law degree from Yale.

As a businessman he has founded Roviant Sciences, a pharmaceutical company and Strive Asset Management, an investment firm.

'Republican swamp' primary fight

Tom Zawistowski is president of the tea party-affiliated We the People Convention.

He compares Ramaswamy's candidacy to Donald Trump running for the White House to take on Democrats, establishment Republicans, and the Deep State..

"We have our own deep state in Ohio, and they're reacting. The entrenched forces are not happy," he says.

Ramaswamy's major primary opponent is expected to be Dave Yost, the Ohio attorney general, but another GOP opponent could be Jim Tressel. The former Ohio State football coach, who was recently appointed lieutenant governor, could prove to be a tough opponent for Yost.

According to Zawistowski, both Yost and Tressel represent the "Republican swamp" which opposes to Ramaswamy.
