Trump and Maine Governor Janet Mills sparred on the topic in a public setting with the President threatening Maine’s cash flow. The video clips have garnered millions of views.
Trump: "You better, you better comply because otherwise you're not getting any, any federal funding."
Mills: "See you in court."
Trump: "Good, I’ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after, Governor, 'cause I don't think you'll be in elected politics."

Robert Knight, a conservative activist and a columnist for the Washington Times, is pleased that that Trump called out Mills.
"Janet Mills is one of the most radical governors in the country. She's hard left on everything from abortion to transgender issues to LGBTQ to COVID vaccines. I mean you name it, she's radical. President Trump is doing what presidents have done for years, which is threatening to withhold federal money if states won't comply with lawful federal mandates,” Knight told AFN.
This past week, the Washington Post ran several one-sided articles, including this one: “Trump’s ‘two sexes’ directive gets it wrong, experts say,” wrote Knight in his column.
"Somehow, leftist media never fail to find credentialed people who spout nonsense. If Mr. Trump had declared that the earth was round, the media would trot out flat earth quacks. They’d insist our planet would be round as a beach ball except for human-caused global warming."

Maine state Representative Laurel Libby told Fox News the state of Maine is not behind the governor (shown at left) on this issue.
“I think Governor Mills has finally met her match, and she's playing a game of chicken with President Trump. That doesn't seem like a great call to me."
"Well, hopefully Governor Mills is going to give. That's the answer in the end. President Trump is right on with issuing this executive order that the vast majority of Americans and Mainers agree with. They don't want to see boys in girls' sports. And so, we have a lot at risk here in our state, $250 million in federal funding. Governor Mills has got to let go of this extreme policy."

A New York Times poll finds 79% of Americans do not agree with boys competing in girls' sports.
Libby said hopefully this will be resolved, and the funding to Maine will not be turned off.
"I'm sure that's one that Governor Mills intends to take to the courts, but hopefully it doesn't get turned off at all. This policy needs to be reversed so that Maine girls have a fair and level playing field, and we have the $250 million that we need for Maine students."
