Opinions vary on what will become of Canadian leadership in short term

A Canadian conservative activist does not believe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will resign from his party's leadership, in spite of many calls for him to do so.

The Canadian leader continues to face growing discontent, and a rising number of his own Liberal Party are calling for him to resign. Trudeau has been in power for nearly a decade, but his popularity has waned in recent years over a wide range of issues including the high cost of living and rising inflation.

Brian Rushfeldt is the former President of Canada Family Action.

"My take on it is that Trudeau will not step down, and in fact one of the reporters from CTV, I believe she's got it right that Trudeau will not step down, and he can't be forced out,” he said.

Conservatives appear to be in a difficult spot.

“There is no mechanism to turf him out of the leadership of the Liberal Party. My take is that Trudeau will not resign. They can't force him out, so he will

continue to be our Prime Minister until the October election,” Rushfeldt said.

Dr. Charles McVety, the president of Canada Christian College, disagrees.

“If the Liberal Party demands that Trudeau step down, then they will elect amongst themselves a new Prime Minister, and that Prime Minister will govern until October. That’s what I expect you’re going to see.”

McVety predicts the likely successor will be Melanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs..

“She has been quite supportive of the Palestinians and the terrorists of Hamas. She is the one I believe Justin Trudeau will maneuver to make the next Prime Minister of Canada.”

Joly would just be temporary, McVety says.

“I don’t believe she’s electable,” he said. “I don’t believe that Canada in October would possibly vote for her as Prime Minister.”

Liberals sinking in the polls

This is where Rushfeldt and McVety are on the same page. Rushfeldt says once that election is held, polls indicate Trudeau and the Liberals will be toast.

"They were down at 20%, which is the lowest they've been in 45 years. The Liberal Party has destroyed itself so badly that the next election is going to put the Conservative Party in a massive majority."
