Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania)

Free-wheeling Fetterman full of surprises

A pro-family activist in Pennsylvania says Senator John Fetterman is proving to be far more moderate than most of his fellow Democrats.

Fetterman – now two years into his first term – continues to go against the grain of his Democratic colleagues, becoming the first U.S. senator in the party to post on President-elect Donald Trump's platform "Truth Social." And his first post condemned the legal cases against Trump and President Biden's son Hunter Biden, saying both were politically motivated.

"Weaponizing the judiciary for blatant, partisan gain diminishes the collective faith in our institutions and sows further division," he posted in reference to Trump's "hush money" case and Hunter Biden's legal cases.

AFN talked with Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania. She suggests Fetterman has gotten a real education since taking office.

"He's gone to DC and seen what the swamp looks like? I think that that may have impacted him so much …. He's definitely still not any good on social issues and such, but good to know that he's gotten on Truth Social," she states.

And Gramley thinks the 2024 presidential campaign was an eye-opener for Fetterman.

"I think he saw with the [Kamala] Harris campaign just how bad the Democratic Party is as far as their very woke policies," she says. "Maybe some of their policies are even too extreme for him when it comes to basically abortion up to birth. I don't think he would approve of that.

"And definitely he does not approve of their policies on the illegal border crossings," the pro-family activist continues. "He's very good on Israel …. I definitely know that came as a surprise to his party that he was so adamantly in support of Israel."

Some political observers suggest Fetterman could be the next Joe Manchin – the longtime "moderate" Democratic senator from West Virginia who left that party earlier this year and filed as an Independent. Manchin did not run for reelection in November 2024.
