Election Day has arrived. And while millions of Americans will await the returns with great anticipation, there is growing evidence that we won't know who the next President of the United States will be for some time.
Jenny Korn served as Deputy Director and Special Assistant to the President at The White House during Trump's presidency.
She says Democrats are plotting for extra time.
"Well, they've kind of forewarned us, right? Democrats have already started saying, well, we don't know if we're going to have the decisions. We're not going to know the results until after the election. So, when they say that we need to listen, because what they're telling you is that they are going to try to stall it. They’re going to try to drag it out for whatever reasons and whatever kind of things that they want to do."
NBCNews.com presents its readers two extremes. Results could be as long as a week in coming or as short as a day.
“One thing is clear: The days of projecting a winner on election night itself are almost certainly over,” the network writes.
“In 2020, election week replaced election night: Joe Biden wasn’t declared the winner until Saturday. This year, it could go either way. It may take as long as a week for the NBC News Decision Desk to project a presidential winner, or it could happen as early as Wednesday, even by Wednesday morning.”
Learning from 2020
Korn says the GOP is better prepared for either outcome.
"Is it going to be lawyers battling it out? In some cases, it's going to be. The good news is that now the Republicans have stepped up their legal team and their legal effort to make sure that they're equipped."
Korn says Florida ought to be the standard for counting and reporting vote numbers.
“Florida is a huge state with a large population, yet they are able to get the results of their voting in an election night that should be the standard for all states.”
