A Michigan-based conservative activist thinks there are reasons to be optimistic about the chances for a Donald Trump win in the state.

As we head into the final weekend before the election the polls remain very tight in key battleground states that could decide the election.

Ron Armstrong, who is president of Stand-Up Michigan, believes that it could come down to Michigan or Pennsylvania.

"I think Michigan is probably the most difficult one to overcome the apparatus that is in place, the Secretary of State. I think there are a lot of ghost voters. I think there's a system that's in place to vote for people in southeast Michigan in huge numbers that is difficult to overcome."

RealClearPolling.com currently shows Harris with an edge of eight-tenths of one percentage point in the average of the major polls of Michigan voters.

Still, Armstrong believes there are reasons to be optimistic.

"I think that Election Day operations for them is not part of their apparatus, and they are I believe hundreds of thousands of votes shorter this term than they were in 2020 because of the lack of enthusiasm from the traditional Democratic voters, the black voters, the Latino Hispanic voters and let's add in there the Muslim population."

A trouble spot in 2020

Trump won the state by less than one point in 2016 but lost it by 2.8 points in 2020.

Michigan was plagued by voting irregularities in 2020 such as duplicate votes, ballots cast by dead voters, precinct imbalance and unauthorized access to voting systems.

Trump contested the results.

This week two election officials in the state were removed from overseeing the vote for telling officials they planned to hand-count ballots and not rely on the voting machines.

Armstrong says look at the union vote.

"None of the unions in Michigan have endorsed Kamala Harris because the rank and file are telling their own union reps I might not be carrying that Trump sign on the corner, but I'm not voting for Harris."
