GOP has a shot in Michigan race -- if it's fair -- pro-family activist says

A Michigan-based pro-family activist says the election of a Republican Senator in that state depends upon whether we have a fair election.

The Cook Political Report says the race to fill the Senate seat of retiring Democrat Debbie Stabenow is rated a tossup, and Republicans hope the open seat can be flipped Republican.

Former Congressman Mike Rogers is the Republican endorsed by Donald Trump. His opponent is Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin who has Stabenow's endorsement.

They debated for the first time last week with the Middle East, abortion and immigration among the key topics.

Bill Johnson is Founder and President of the Michigan-based American Decency Association.

"It's been many years since we've had a Republican US senator. As far as the chances that he has, I think they're good. But I think so much of it depends upon whether we really do have a fair election nationwide and in Michigan as well."

Michigan chaos in 2020

The 2020 presidential election in Michigan saw several legal challenges and controversies.

Some key events included a federal lawsuit by the Trump campaign claiming fraud and a group of Republican attorneys and activists who were accused of attempting to use a false certificate of ascertainment containing electoral votes for Donald Trump though he’d lost to Joe Biden.

Johnson says Rogers' opponent is your typical Democrat.

"She's far left and she's, of course, pro-abortion, so the stands that she's going to take are going to be typically along the lines of a Gretchen Whitmer. So, I'm sure that the Democratic Party is very pleased with her position and her positioning. Nonetheless, when you compare the two candidates and the two parties, the Republican Party shines much more brightly than the Democratic Party, no doubt."
