A conservative political pundit is concerned that Ted Cruz's Democrat challenger is closing the gap in the important Senate race in the Lone Star State.

The Cook Political Report recently downgraded Texas's Senate race from "likely Republican" to "leans Republican."

Rep. Colin Allred has received millions and millions of donations from outside the state in his challenge against incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz in the red state.

Cathie Adams is a former Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas and now serves as Second Vice President of Eagle Forum.

"I am concerned. I think that every Texan ought to be concerned. We have probably the best U.S. senator ever in Ted Cruz. This is a man who is not only brilliant, but he is so dedicated to doing what Texans need and what we want, and he is open to communication. He is humble before the voters and yet he is out there just courageously taking the hits for us."

Adams says Texans would be devastated in the Democrats flip this seat.

Dems making use of 'mothers' milk'

the Democrats. That’s why they have targeted Ted Cruz, and because they came close last time, they have doubled down this time, with money pouring in. And yes, money is the mothers' milk of politics. It does matter. Ted Cruz needs all of our widow's mites."

The two candidates have agreed to debate on Oct. 15 at the studios of WFAA-TV in Dallas. The debate will be moderated by WFAA Senior Political Reporter Jason Whitely and Gromer Jeffers Jr., the political reporter for The Dallas Morning News.

Cruz was first elected to the Senate in 2012 and is seeking a third six-year term in the Senate. Cruz is the ranking member of the Senate Committee for Commerce, Science and Transportation.

Allred was elected to the U.S. House in 2018 representing the Dallas area.

Inspired by Beto

In 2018, Cruz beat former Rep. Beto O’Rourke by a close margin. The two were separated by 3 percentage points of flipping the seat, which is the closest margin in a Texas U.S. Senate race in decades.

Adams says this is going to be a tough race down the stretch.

"It is a tough race, not because Ted Cruz is not doing an outstanding job, but because of the money on the other side and the evil intent of the other side."

Adams remains confident about a Ted Cruz victory on Nov. 5.
