Planned Parenthood offered medication abortions for free in a mobile clinic for the first two days of the DNC. Democrats held their convention Aug. 19-22 at Chicago’s United Center.
The mobile abortions were covered by national and local news outlets.
"I don't know that we have a firm grasp on how many abortions were completed, how many lives were ended, but it certainly looks as if there were some that were ended at the DNC this year, making it the deadliest DNC in history," says Kelsey Pritchard, state public affairs director at Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
There was obvious disregard for unborn life, but there were health concerns for women too, Pritchard said.
"Planned Parenthood, they were really at home with their abortion bus in front of the DNC offering free abortions for those who took them up on the offer. They not only took the lives of unborn children, but they put women at risk for severe complications like hemorrhaging and the need for emergency surgery in some cases."
Planned Parenthood says on its website that "the abortion pill is very safe," but pro-life organizations disagree.
Reported data shows the risk is low.
Complications from medication abortion are slightly higher than procedural abortion, but both are less than 1%, according to The New York Times.
"Abortion drugs could cause the death of the woman, and so this is this is par for the course unfortunately for Democrats and just shows how extreme they've become on the issue of abortion,” Pritchard said.
Not your father's Democrats
Democrats' views on abortion have changed in the last few decades. In the 1990s, then President Bill Clinton had this to say about abortion:
"Our vision should be of America where abortion is safe and legal, but rare," said Clinton.
Today, pro-lifers say Democrats are no longer the party of pro-choice, rather the party of pro-abortion. Pritchard says they've even become the 'shout your abortion' party.
When Democrats released their party platform at the convention, the word abortion was used 13 times.
“That made it the most pro-abortion platform in party history,” Pritchard said. “They promised national legislation to mandate all trimester abortion in every state. They called for the repeal of the Hyde amendment to force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions, and the platform repeatedly attacks the Dobbs decision and the 24 pro-life states that have protections in place that protect lives annually in the states."
