Biden admin releases new deportation rule that...does nothing

After waiting for the poll-watching Biden administration to announce a crackdown on illegal immigration, an immigration watchdog says what came instead was a meaningless P.R. stunt.

Facing bipartisan criticism for allowing record-breaking illegal immigration, the Biden administration has unveiled a new rule it says will expedite the removal of illegal aliens who pose a national security risk or a public safety threat to the United States.

A related CBS News story says the new rule, announced by the Department of Homeland Security, speeds up the removal process for illegal immigrants whose threat to public safety means they are not eligible for asylum in the U.S.

Ira Mehlman, of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, tells AFN nobody should be fooled by the new asylum rule.

“It is more of an attempt on the part of the Biden administration, ahead of the election,” he says, “to try to convince the American public that they're trying to do something about asylum abuse.”

Mehlman says even NPR, the liberal news organization, admitted the new rule has little effect.

Sure enough, an NPR correspondent told the “All Things Considered” program the new rule has a “fairly narrow impact” because DHS was already denying asylum to border crossers with criminal backgrounds. The same story quoted a liberal immigrant-rights group that was confused by the rule since known terrorists or criminals are not granted asylum in the U.S.

According to Mehlman, the rule is also meaningless since DHS must uncover the criminal backgrounds in order to order the deportations.

“As we've seen on many occasions recently,” he complains, “we can't even find out when people have criminal records."
