AFN reported on Monday that recent polling indicates a noticeable paradigm shift among black male voters toward the Republican Party. Since then, AFN spoke with P Rae Easley, who is part of a group called "ChicagoRED" that has the goal of moving citizens away from the liberal progressive failures that are bankrupting the city. She says there is already evidence of a shift toward the GOP in that community.
"In the last primary election, we looked at the black wards – [and] we saw that there was a 40% increase of people who chose to pull Republican ballots," she tells AFN. "We're also seeing how people are much more comfortable talking about how they support the former president."
Easley, who serves as an ambassador for the Project 21 Black Leadership Network, shares that she lives in Chicago's largest black community, but has experienced no pushback for her Republican leanings. "I personally have a Trump sign in my yard. [And] I can go out with my 'Illinois for Trump' flag and wave it in the air and people are like, Yes!"
She adds: "I think that the country is going to be surprised by the turnout for Donald Trump here in Chicago. People are very excited to vote for him."
Easley expects that as things continue to deteriorate, more and more blacks will migrate to the Republican Party. "In order to preserve ourselves, we must make better political decisions," she contends, "and the first decision is to get away from the Democrats, the liberals, the progressives who have historically caused us harm."
Easley hosts the program "Black Excellence Hour" on WVON 1690AM in the Windy City.
Mayor on the hot seat
Recently, Easley joined residents from Chicago's minority community as they descended on City Hall to let Mayor Brandon Johnson know they are fed up with resources being diverted to illegal aliens instead of citizens in the community. The city has already forked out $300 million for housing, food and health care for illegals; but the mayor had requested an additional $70 million, defended the city's sanctuary policies, and wants aldermen to greenlight the additional funds.
"We are very serious about the invasion that we are suffering from right now in Chicago," Easley explains. "Our mayor has been very diligent about providing support services to illegals without providing those supports to American citizens. We've had enough, and it's time to fight back."
Being involved with ChicagoRED is one way she is fighting back.
"When we look at this current liberalism, we see that it's full of perversion, it's full of chaos; they're taking our money, and they're not talking to us about it. Our tagline is 'The Chicago blues gave us the blues' – and we're tired of being tired."
She continues: "We have choices – and that's how ChicagoRED has started. Our movement is growing very rapidly because initially it was a faux pas to publicly criticize liberal policies. But now that's over – we're free. We can say what we want to say, when we want to say it, how we want to say it."
A Wall Street Journal poll released this month indicated that President Joe Biden is losing support among black men in seven swing states. While most black males still intend to vote Democrat, 30% said they were either "definitely" or "probably" going to vote for Trump. Since Trump received only 12% of the black male vote in 2020, it could have a significant impact on the 2024 presidential election if the polling translates into actual votes.
