Do Dems have alternate plan if Trump isn't GOP nominee?

Vice President Kamala Harris says she and President Joe Biden aren't sweating a rematch with former President Donald Trump. But if this November's race doesn't include Trump, that could throw a wrench into the entire Democratic machine, says Outkick host Tomi Lahren.

The legally embattled Trump blasted through the cold and the GOP field with 51% of the vote in Monday's Iowa caucuses, the start of state-by-state primary voting. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was next with 21.2%, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley third with 19.1%. Businessman and political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy, whose youthful energy played well on social media and pushed him past more experienced candidates like Chris Christie and Mike Pence, finished fourth with less than 10% of the vote and suspended his campaign.

Trump's win shot down claims from his challengers that their boots-on-the-ground efforts in Iowa had created real momentum. In a one-on-one interview with ABC News, Vice President Harris said bring it on.

"Let me just tell you this, no matter who the Republican nominee is, we're winning … we're winning. If it is Donald Trump … we beat him before, we'll beat him again," Harris said.

Lahren isn't so sure.

"If they were thrown a curveball and had a different candidate like a Ron DeSantis or – it pains me to say – a Nikki Haley, I think they would be scrambling because they are not as prepared to take on another candidate," she said on Fox News Tuesday morning.

"The current White House, and Democrats, are hoping Donald Trump is going to be the nominee. They're seeing the polls like we're seeing the polls, and they think Donald Trump likely will be the nominee," she continued.

"That's who they want to run against. That's who they've spent all this time building ammunition against. Beyond the four indictments, the media has been preparing for the return of Donald Trump honestly since before he ran in 2016."

GOP can't put all eggs in Biden basket

Lahren added that Republicans would be wise to avoid putting all their eggs in Biden's basket as strategy goes. Their focus, she suggested, should be on Democrats' far-left policies – like embracing radical gender confusion, silencing opposing viewpoints, unlimited abortion access and more.

"We can't fall into the same trap. We have to be ready for who the Democrat nominee will be if it's not Joe Biden. We can't simply talk about how bad Joe Biden is and how mentally unfit he is or how physically unfit he is or his scandals. We have to talk about Democrat policies and how they're failing America. If we do that, it doesn't matter who the Democrat nominee is – we're going to set ourselves up in a good spot," Lahren said.
