Prediction: 'Over-the-top' year in Ohio for Republicans?

A tea party activist in Ohio contends Donald Trump's recent endorsement of an Ohio Republican senatorial candidate is going to finally end the career of three-term Democrat Sherrod Brown.

"Bernie Moreno … is exactly the type of MAGA fighter that we need in the United States Senate," Trump said on his social media network, Truth Social. "It's time for the entire Republican Party to unite around Bernie's campaign for Senate, so that we can have a BIG victory in what will be the most important election in American history."

Tom Zawistowski, president of We the People Convention and the Ohio Citizens PAC, says the former president's endorsement of Moreno could be a game-changer.

"We think we're going to have a real shot at it because Trump won Ohio by eight points, both 2016 and 2020," he argues. "And I would predict right now that Trump will probably win Ohio by 10 or 12 points. So, those coattails are going to be very strong and very long – and that should be enough to carry Bernie Marino to victory in the Senate."

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio has also endorsed Moreno. Zawistowski predicts overall Ohio is going to turn even "redder" in 2024.

"I think Ohio is just going to just have an insanely over-the-top Republican year, all the way down to dog catchers," he tells AFN. "We already have super majorities in the [state] House and the Senate; and we have every state office holder. I think it's going to even be more congressional seats that we didn't win in 2022, which I was surprised about."

Polls last fall – long before Trump's endorsement – gave Sen. Brown anywhere from a 6.5-point lead to an 11-point lead in a potential matchup against Moreno.
