Even liberal NPR admits 'historic numbers' at border but Mayorkas survives impeachment again

After several House Republicans joined Democrats to save Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from an impeachment resolution this week, the frustrated congresswoman who introduced the resolution assured the DHS boss his days are numbered.

“Eight Republicans joined with Democrats to protect your job,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told Mayorkas at a Wednesday hearing. “I want you to know you have a short time coming.”

Greene, who had filed articles of impeachment against Mayorkas back in May, went on to urge him to “honorably resign” or be impeached which she predicted is happening “very, very soon.”

Rep. Greene was referring to efforts by a GOP-led Judiciary Committee to bring impeachment vote to the floor but she has also criticized that efforts by fellow Republicans for moving slowly.

In a somewhat complicated floor vote Monday, the vote of 209-201 focused on a Democratic motion to table – meaning suspend – a consideration to impeach Mayorkas, according to a National Review story about the vote.

The vote for the motion passed with help from House Republicans Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Rep. John Duarte (R-CA), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-OR), and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH).

Among those Republicans, Rep. Issa criticized Rep. Greene for ignoring committee votes and using what is called a privileged resolution to introduce her impeachment resolution. Doing so is an improper use of that procedure which shows Greene lacks "maturity and experience," he told reporters.

After learning of that criticism, Rep. Greene mocked Issa with crude memes on social media.

Ira Mehlman, of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, tells AFN his group wants Mayorkas removed for a “dereliction of his duty” by failing to keep the U.S. border secure.

NPR, the famously liberal news outlet, reported this week the southwest border has seen “historic numbers” of illegal aliens – “migrants” according to NPR – that now number approximately 2.4 million during the Biden administration.

Mayorkas, meanwhile, has sat in front of Republican lawmakers and smugly insisted the “border is secure” during more than one appearance.

During the committee hearing Tuesday, after Greene vowed to punish Mayorkas, the DHS boss lectured Republicans about their description of an overrun border thanks to a softball question from a California Democrat, Rep. Robert Garcia.

“Mr. Secretary, yes or no, is our question currently being invaded?” Rep. Garcia asked.

“Congressman, that is a term that I find offensive,” Mayorkas, appearing concerned, replied.

“That’s hilarious,” Rep. Greene said from her committee seat.

Regarding the Congresswoman’s complaint about slow-moving fellow Republicans, Mehlman says it is true some congressional committees are frustrated with Mayorkas and his performance.

“They need to get things going. The clock is ticking,” he says. “Gathering evidence is great but the American public needs to see some action.”
