Will red state re-elect a radical Democrat?

A conservative activist hopes a rising star in the Republican Party will defeat Kentucky's left-leaning governor.

In the past, Kentucky has been a consistent red state; Donald Trump carried it by 26 points in the 2020 presidential election. But in 2019, thanks to problems besetting then-Governor Matt Bevin (R), Democrat Andy Beshear (pictured above) was able to eke out a narrow win.

Now, four years later, conservatives are counting on Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) to make Beshear a one-term governor.

Kentucky native Gary Bauer, who is chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, says Republicans are trying to tie Beshear to Joe Biden.

"The governor has learned well from people like Joe Biden," Bauer notes. "He has a moderate demeanor; he sounds like a downhome Kentucky guy, but he is a left-wing radical in every sense of that word. [If] his opponent, who I think is potentially a national rockstar … can make that case, then I think we'll see a Republican back in the governorship of Kentucky."

The conservative activist holds Cameron in high regard. And as AFN noted earlier this year, he and Beshear are polar opposites.

"He's an articulate, black, conservative, pro-life guy who just is really incredible," Bauer says of the attorney general.
