A legal scholar who focuses on election integrity says many states have passed reforms since the 2020 elections – and that even though things are by no means "perfect" yet, the nation is in a lot better shape headed into the next presidential election.

It seems that anyone who dares question the validity of the 2020 presidential election risks being vilified by many in the Democratic Party and the mainstream media. Still, many Americans contend that that election was stolen from Donald Trump, and are fearful that plans are already in place to make sure the same thing happens in 2024.

Hans von Spakovsky is senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation and manager of the Election Law Reform Initiative. He tells AFN that things have improved.

"Actually, we are in better shape in 2024 than we certainly were in 2020," he explains. "Of course, it depends on the state you're in. But … a number of states – in fact, many states – actually improved the election process. Many of them took the 2020 election as a lesson and they passed reforms."

Georgia is one of those states, according to the Heritage fellow. "… They had a huge increase in mail-in voting [and are] extending their voter ID requirement to mail-in ballots," he describes. "So, with those kinds of changes, that actually will improve the security of the election process.

"So, I think we're actually in better shape," von Spakovsky concludes. "Are things perfect? No – but we're actually in better shape than we were in the prior presidential election."

According to Heritage, Tennessee and Georgia currently rank highest on its "Election Integrity Scorecard." Hawaii and Nevada rank lowest.
