Might Dems be hoping GOP does dirty work for them?

A conservative political pundit says a new poll doesn't bode well for President Joe Biden – and could pave the way for Gavin Newsom to run for president next year.

A recent CNN poll found that 51% of Americans believe the economy is getting worse. The same poll gives Biden only a 41% approval rating – relatively unchanged since this spring. When his handling of the economy is factored in, Biden received just a 37% approval rating from those polled. His approval rating also sinks to 30% among all respondents (and to 26% among Independents) on his handling of inflation.

Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for President Donald Trump, hosts a weekday morning show on American Family Radio. During an appearance on AFR, she weighed in on the new poll, arguing the president is "in trouble."

"I think that this story about Burisma, about China is actually the bigger story. And [while] conservatives obviously need to be concerned about [Donald Trump's legal problems], the timeline is always fascinating to me," she shared.

"[Specifically] anything else that comes out about Biden, about Hunter, about anything, it's like the next day there's another indictment against Donald Trump. Then everybody on mainstream media talks about [that] instead of Joe Biden and Hunter."

According to Ellis, some in his own party know Biden is a liability – and perhaps are even hopeful the GOP follows through on its impeachment threat.

"I spoke with Congressman Mike Johnson [R-Louisiana] and he said that he, as part of the GOP leadership in the House Majority, and Speaker [Kevin] McCarthy are planning to pursue an impeachment inquiry for Joe Biden," she explained, "even though from a political perspective this could be playing into the Democrats' hands."

Ellis said by ridding themselves of Biden through a GOP-led impeachment process, Democrats would be able to open the door for California Governor Gavin Newsom to be the party's presidential nominee for 2024.
