In obedience, evangelical pastor enters race for GOP presidential nomination

A conservative black minister and talk-show host is throwing his hat into the ring for president in 2024.

Bishop E.W. Jackson Sr., 71, is founder and president of STAND (Staying True to America's National Destiny) and for the past several years has been host of "The Awakening" on American Family Radio. Monday on AFR, Jackson announced that he's leaving his program to run for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

When asked why he felt led to join an already-crowded field of candidates, Jackson responded:

"I ultimately came to the conclusion that this was really what the Lord was calling me to do …. And I always say that is a question of are you going to be obedient or not? And I felt like, okay, I'm going to be obedient and do what I believe the Lord has for me to do," Jackson said.

His campaign has posted the candidate's 10-point plan, which touches on issues such as patriotism, abortion, racial unity, and religious freedom.

"I don't know where this leads. All I know is I love the Lord, I love this country, [and] I'm concerned about the direction we're going in," he added.

Jackson argues that the Christian community needs to get engaged and not be ashamed of its point of view, which desperately needs to be heard. "And I believe that God will use my voice to at least call attention to some things that the country needs to hear, particularly the Christian community," he added.

A Harvard-educated attorney, Jackson isn't new to the political arena. He was the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor of Virginia in 2013; and he twice sought (unsuccessfully) the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Virginia in 2012 and 2018. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years in the early 1970s.

He is currently head pastor of Exodus Faith Ministries in Chesapeake, VA.

Dems are the same they've always been

Jackson told the radio audience that he wants to dispel the myth that the Democratic Party cares about black people.

"[It's] really the same party that it was during the time of slavery," he stated. "It has the same spirit – and the spirit is Black people are inherently inferior, they don't know what to do with themselves, we know what to do with them, we will take care of them, we will use them for our purposes; and the bad ones are the ones who want to run away … who want to be free to have their own viewpoint, their own opinions. Those are the bad people."

"Their attitude is they own black people; they own the victim classes they set up – and don't you dare contradict what they tell you you ought to think or they will really show you who they are. And I'll tell you, I've gotten some really nasty stuff coming out of the Left."
