Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) recently spoke in a Woodstock, Georgia church and, without scriptural support, made the claim that God has no problem with terminating the lives of preborn children. Pro-life folks, she said, are theologically illiterate.
But Elizabeth Reed, leadership director at Georgia Life Alliance, tells AFN God does not support abortion. She references several points in God's Word where he clearly says that taking a human life grieves his heart.
"In the Bible, it says there are seven things the Lord hates, and one of them is hands that shed innocent blood," she cites from Proverbs 6:16-19. "Jeremiah [1:5] says that before [he was] born, he was appointed a prophet to the nations, and while he was still in his mother's womb, God called him. God absolutely loves the unborn," Reed asserts. "He knits us together in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:13)."
She says that is why life-affirming people work so hard to counter the abortion culture.
"Trying to restrict abortion and abortion bans and things like that -- Stacey also claims that those are cruel and unbiblical things," Reed reports. "They're not, because God also calls us to hold back those who are staggering towards the slaughter (Proverbs 24:11) and to defend the widow and the orphan and the fatherless (Psalm 68:5). She's just wrong, and she's misrepresenting the gospel."
Raphael Warnock (D), a "pro-choice" pastor and politician serving as the United States senator from Georgia since 2021, is another abortion-supporting politician in The Peach State. According to the head pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, abortion is a constitutional right.
Reed says it terrifies her heart to think how God will deal with that.
