Speaking for many others, Turek told American Family Radio he was sickened to watch footage of Afghans desperately clinging to a C-17 transport plane as it took off from Kabul’s airport.
There is a reason, he says, why Afghans are desperate to escape the Taliban.
“Most of the things they believe are directly contrary to the United States Constitution,” Turek told AFR. “They don't believe in freedom of speech. They don't believe in freedom of religion. They don't believe in freedom of assembly.”
Christian Freedom International, a persecution watchdog group, has told American Family News the Taliban knows who attends church services in the country’s cities and villages, and the terrorist group has informed those Christians they are targets.
“Many of the Christians in Afghanistan are converts,” CFI spokeswoman Wendy Wright said, “and that is considered apostasy to Muslims."
Turek agrees those Christian believers are facing great persecution, and even execution for their faith, in the coming days and weeks.
“Hopefully there will be the ability of some sort of underground church to operate,” he said, “but it's going to be very difficult.”
