The devil's in the details

You know we're living in a weird time when the devil doesn't even bother to pretend anymore that he doesn't exist.

Robert Knight is a columnist for The Washington Times. His latest book is "Crooked: What Really Happened in the 2020 Election and How to Stop the Fraud."

In our materialistic modern age, we sometimes need reminders that Lucifer is real and up to no good. And that God is infinitely more powerful.

Years ago, LGBTQ activists picketed a church in Anchorage, Alaska because the church opposed a gay rights ordinance. The protestors noticed a guy dressed in a devil suit with a pitchfork marching beside them. When they asked what he was doing, he said, "Oh, the pastor sent me out here. He thought it was only fair to let people know whose side you're on."

Love that pastor.

C.S. Lewis once wrote that Satan's greatest trick is to convince people that he and his evil hordes are mere superstition.

You know we're living in a weird time when the devil doesn't even bother to pretend anymore that he doesn't exist.

It's not just his handiwork – a shocking increase in senseless violence, perversions of all kinds and bald-faced lying by our ruling elites, enforced by a corrupt media. It's getting even more overt.

The Satanic Temple says it will unveil on Valentine's Day, February 14, the "world's first religious abortion clinic" in New Mexico, which will offer "abortion rituals."

St. Valentine was a Christian priest who was martyred by Rome in the Third century. The patron saint of love, he allegedly performed secret marriage ceremonies in defiance of pagan authorities.

Turning Valentine's Day into a celebration of abortion is right up there with sexual radicals hijacking the rainbow.

The devil cannot create even one blade of grass. He can only pervert and despoil what God has created. He and his minions mock everything good and true.

As such, the new facility, operated by the Temple's TST Health, is named Samuel Alito's Mom's Satanic Abortion Clinic. Justice Alito wrote the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade, one of the devil's all-time favorite rulings. The clinic will even have an "altar."

"The Abortion Ritual serves as a protective rite," according to the TST Health website. "Its purpose is to cast off unwanted feelings that a patient may be experiencing …. alleviate stressors and empower the patient."

The site goes on to explain a key tenet: "Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs."

That would be news to science-denying lawmakers in several states who have legalized abortion of viable babies right up to the moment of birth. Or to the satanically arrayed drag queens who get their kicks performing sexually charged routines in front of young children. Or to the crackpot surgeons who remove girls' healthy breasts and castrate boys.

Some government schools are actually welcoming clubs sponsored by the Satanic Temple's After School Satan program. The satanists don't really think they can get away with this; they just want authorities to issue a blanket ban to get rid of the Good News clubs operated by evangelical Christians. The devil's personal law firm, the ACLU, has been pulling stunts like this for years.

This is what happens when a society exchanges a clear grasp of right and wrong for the false promise of moral relativism. If nobody's ever wrong, nobody could ever be right. So, let's call it a draw and bring in the abortion rituals and drag queens.

Much of the devil's power derives from deception. As Jesus told the Pharisees who were trying to trap him, "You are from your father the devil …. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

One of the things the devil hates most in modern life, besides pain-free dentistry and Bible literacy, is a free press. A truly free media exposes lies and advances truth.

Progressive journalists not only have given up the quest for objectivity but even boast about it.

In a piece entitled "Newsrooms that move beyond 'objectivity' can build trust," former Washington Post executive editor Leonard Downie, Jr. belittles journalistic balance as "bothsidesism."

Like the New York Times and major networks, the Post is now a font of propaganda, overflowing with racial enmity and sexual dysfunction. The exquisitely woke Mr. Downie explains that objectivity "was dictated over decades by male editors in predominantly White newsrooms and reinforced by their own view of the world." He must really loathe himself.

This is similar to the Smithsonian Institution's black power guru claiming that rational thinking, punctuality, hard work and even math skills are evidence of white racism. The devil loves ginning up racial resentment and dividing us into warring identity groups.

Still, the infernal dragon has a very unpleasant future, according to Scripture. He is a self-delusional creature who always goes overboard.

We won't see heaven on earth anytime soon. But the gap between good and evil is widening and truth is advancing.

As Bob Dylan sang, "there's a slow, slow train comin' up around the bend."
