Re: Antifa investigation, Harmeet Dhillon is doing the right thing

A terrorism expert and critic of Islam applauds the Justice Department for investigating an Antifa mob's violent protest at a recent TPUSA event.

The Justice Department is launching an investigation into the fight that broke out at the University of California, Berkeley during a protest outside the final stop of Turning Point USA's "American Comeback Tour" earlier this week.

Inside the packed Berkeley auditorium, attendees chanted "Charlie Kirk" while holding posters of his face. But outside, a crowd of masked protesters set off smoke bombs, and several brawls broke out. Frontlines TPUSA described it as a "war zone."

At least four people were arrested.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon says Antifa was involved in the protests and the university police were biased in who they protected.

"It is not a both sides problem," she recently told Fox News. "When a violent mob like Antifa comes and attacks like this, it's what we call a hecklers veto in First Amendment jurisprudence. And given the fact that there has now been a terrorist designation here, the Joint Terrorism Task Force is going to be looking into this."

The UC Berkeley violence follows Antifa's July 4 attack at the "Prairieland" Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Alvarado, Texas, where a group of individuals wearing black clothing and body-armor allegedly used fireworks as a diversion before opening fire on officers.

Federal prosecutors indicted two of the suspects on terrorism-related charges – a first for the "Antifa-aligned" group.

Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, applauds Dhillon for doing the right thing.

"She's got an uphill battle," he recognizes. "She should cut off all federal funding to these universities – there's no doubt about that – but even if she succeeded in doing that, they have billion-dollar endowments, and they're not going to suffer from losing the funds."

"That doesn't mean that she shouldn't do it," Spencer asserts.

He says it is a "travesty" that American taxpayers are being made to pay for these "subversive fascistic institutions," and that should be stopped right away.

Monday night's attack comes just two months after TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated at a tour stop at Utah Valley University.
