An immigration enforcement organization is pleased to see that Republicans recognize their chance to secure our own borders.

Just two weeks ago, Senate Republicans unanimously opposed a motion to proceed on a foreign aid bill aimed at helping U.S. allies defend their security because it did not include strong provisions to protect America's own security.

Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), says the divisions seem to be on the Democratic side this time. "We'll see how it plays out," he tells AFN, but he thinks this Republican show of unity may prove productive.

"They are hanging tough. They are insisting that this has to be an inclusion in this bill," he reports. "Where you're seeing the divisions now is on the Democratic side. You've got purple state Democrats who are getting really, really nervous about what is going on down there at the border."

Meanwhile, despite the nation's increasing internal threat level caused by Biden's open-border policies, there is a far-Left flank of the Democratic Party that does not seem to care at all.

"It just wants open borders, no matter what the potential dangers are to this country," Mehlman says. "These two factions are obviously important to President Biden as he enters the election year."

FAIR is urging Congress not to squander another opportunity to secure America's borders, but Mehlman does not expect anything to happen until lawmakers return from their end-of-the-year break.
