Michele Bachmann represented Minnesota's 6th district in Congress for four terms, all during the Obama administration. Having served on the House Intelligence Committee, she is well versed in the Israeli-Arab tensions that have metastasized into war. She tells American Family News she's horrified at the atrocities she's seen coming out of the war, but sees Israel rising to the occasion.
"What I'm seeing happening right now is a decisive, unified response on the part of the Israeli people," she shared.
The former House member, who has always been a strong supporter of Israel, says the U.S. must not join other international voices calling for restraint in dealing with the terrorist organization Hamas.
"What Israel is asking America for is to let Israel fight its own battle – that's it," she explains. "When I served in the United States Congress with President Obama, for instance, there was an effort from his administration to handcuff Israel."
Bachmann says she supports the Biden administration's move to send two aircraft carrier groups off the coast of Israel as a visible sign of support for the besieged democracy.
"It was a necessary and a sane move on the part of Joe Biden," she continues. "I thank him for having the carrier groups, because what an aircraft carrier does is it extends American power."
And in Bachmann's opinion, any group that would commit the war crimes she's seeing on her television isn't motivated by a desire for peace – or even revenge. "The mindset is truly debased. It is demonic. It is a satanically inspired agenda," she offers.
Hamas, she added, must be eliminated: "They were created in 2007; they can be eliminated in 2023."
Bachmann is currently dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University in Virginia.
