Data released by Do No Harm reports three of the country's 12 worst-offending children's hospitals promoting sex-change procedures for minors are in The Golden State. That database identifies among "The Dirty Dozen" the following California-based hospitals:
- Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which operates the Center for Transyouth Health and Development
- Rady Children's Hospital (San Diego), which operates the Center for Gender-Affirming Care
- UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, which operates the Child and Adolescent Gender Center.
Greg Burt of California Family Council says there are still other hospitals in the state that didn't make the top 12. One of those – Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford – submitted charges of almost $4.5 million and wrote more than 800 prescriptions for drugs associated with gender manipulation (e.g., puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone therapies).
"We find that very concerning since these drugs do sterilize kids [and] make them medical patients for their entire lives – because, as we all know, you can't really change from one gender to another," he tells AFN.
"Children need guidance, not fast-tracked medical treatments that they may one day regret," he adds in a press release.
Burt claims physicians are being coerced into performing transition procedures by leftists.
"Doctors are being put under incredible pressure that if they don't go along with transitioning kids and letting them pick their own gender, then their own licenses are going to be [under] scrutiny," he explains.
California law allows the state to take temporary custody of out-of-state minors seeking transgender care. Officials are waiting to take such a case to court to test the constitutionality of the law.
While California has three in the "Dirty Dozen," only one other state has more than one – Pennsylvania has two: The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
