Canadian doc might lose license after urging patient to reconsider abortion

A Canadian doctor is facing disciplinary action for attempting to save an unborn life.

Dr. Terence Davids is a family physician at the Bridge City Medicclinic, located in Saskatoon. After he urged a patient to not abort her baby, he has been accused of “unprofessional conduct” and could lose his medical license.

Louis Roth, of Campaign Life Coalition, tells AFN she has been following the doctor’s situation.

“The woman had come to [Davids] to get the information so she could go to an abortionist, and he advised the woman to reconsider,” Roth says.

After the female patient filed a complaint, a hearing date is now pending before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.

The medical organization has a conscientious objection policy that allows physicians to decline assisting a patient if doing so violates their conscience, according to a CTV News story about Dr. David’s interaction with the female patient.

The policy also forbids physicians from promoting their religious and moral beliefs to patients but Dr. Davids, a Christian, allegedly urged the woman to reconsider aborting her child on moral and religious grounds.
