Overcoming: Bream's new book reflects on biblical thread

A Christian news anchor says she notices a common theme in the lives of some of the Bible's faith heroes.

In addition to serving as the anchor of FOX News Sunday, Shannon Bream is the author of the number-one New York Times bestseller, "The Women of the Bible Speak." She also serves as chief legal correspondent for the network and hosts a podcast.

Her new book, "Nothing is Impossible with God," looks at 11 heroes of the faith.

"They have this common thread to me of overcoming," she tells AFN. "We think a lot of times of overcoming something big, a big challenge in front of you. For some of these biblical heroes, it was literally going into battle, like in the case of Gideon."

But she recognizes there can be other things, "like your own self-doubt, your own failures, like we see in the life of Peter."

Bream says she also lived the theme of the book before putting pen to paper. For several years, she suffered from chronic pain that almost took her eyesight.

"I would not have chosen that valley at all, but I will say it deepened my faith, and I learned God's presence in a new way," the author shares.

In this book, she writes about Moses overcoming anxiety, Joseph's family dysfunction, Noah's patience, and more. Her last chapter is about Jesus overcoming our sin and the cross.

"The key verse for the Bible is when Jesus is talking to his disciples in John 16, verse 33, where he says to them, 'You will have trouble in this world, but take heart, because I've overcome,'" she quotes.

Back to her personal life, Bream is thankful there are things she does not have to overcome at Fox News.

"I'm just endlessly grateful that Fox says, 'We see value in this,'" she tells AFN. "I've never been told, 'Tone down your faith. Don't weave it in. Don't talk about it.'"

She knows many of the other news networks are not as friendly to faith.
