Walsh says goal of documentary is exposing 'one big grift'

The star of a new Daily Wire documentary about racism, Matt Walsh, says the goal is to expose the dishonest “grifters” who are getting wealthy by exploiting the issue.

The documentary “Am I Racist?” takes on the issue of diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, in particular the so-called experts who are getting wealthy by selling white guilt.

As the documentary shows, some people – white and minority academics and activists – are cashing big checks from guilt-ridden white people who have been convinced they live in a racist society and are contributing to it because they are white.

In an interview on American Family Radio, Walsh called the DEI movement “one big grift” by dishonest provocateurs.

“The money must be a major motivation for them,” he said. “These people are in it for the money.”

In its opening weekend, "Am I Racist" opened in fourth place with an estimated $4.8 million in box office sales, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For a documentary film, those box office totals are the highest-grossing documentary since Disney's "Bears" debuted a decade ago.

In the documentary, Walsh disguises himself as a self-identified DEI expert which allows him to sit and interview real-life DEI experts. Those interviews begin with the price those experts demanded for the interview, such as $15,000 paid to “White Fragility” author Robin DiAngelo. In the climax of the film, the so-called anti-bias expert was duped into being interviewed by Walsh and was apologizing to Ben, Walsh’s black producer, for the sins of being white.

“On behalf of myself and my fellow white people,” DiAngelo tells Ben, “I apologize. It is not you, it is us. As long as I’m standing, I will do my best to challenge it.”

Not done with the trickery, Walsh hands Ben a wad of dollar bills as a symbol of “reparations” and asks DiAngelo if she would hand him cash, too. Hesitant at first, because she calls reparations a “systemic” approach, DiAngelo gives in and digs $30 from her purse for Ben.

“Some of the craziest things that they profess, I think that they, the grifters anyway, they know that it's crazy,” Walsh told show host Jenna Ellis. “They know how it sounds and so they're very reluctant to say it out loud, most of them.”
