As reported on AFN, Sophie Kutzko was removed from her parents’ home by the state after her parents objected to a secret social transition at her public high school.
According to Fox News, the parents, who are Catholic, point to Algonquin Regional High School in Southborough, Massachusetts, for exposing their daughter to a gender ideology culture and blame a school counselor for the social transitioning their daughter. They believe it was that counselor who called the Department of Children and Families (DCF) on them not affirming their daughter’s “transition” into a boy because of their faith.
Abraham Hamilton III, general counsel of American Family Association, talked about this on the “Today's Issues” program, and radio host warned that overzealous state agencies are treating parental opposition to gender transition like criminal child abuse.
“What's happening in states like Massachusetts is that they are using a child abuse standard to do this. So, they are treating — like the Kutzkos, for example — their refusal to call their daughter a boy, they are treating that as if the parents are actually physically abusing the child,” Hamilton explains.
The 15-year-old was removed from Joseph and Arlene Kutzko's home in 2024 and has reportedly not seen her family in nearly two years. Currently, there is a restraining order against the parents and brother, as DCF has custody of Sophie.
Hamilton expects the parents to ultimately prevail in court, but stresses the heavy toll of the legal battle.
“I expect this to be corrected legally, ultimately, but at what cost? What kind of daughter will they have back with them by the time the litigation finishes? The abuse is being imposed upon the child by the state and imposed upon the family by the state,” Hamilton states.
Legal advocacy groups are challenging the state's actions, while family advocates urge parents to stay closely connected and vigilant in their children's lives.
The Child and Parental Rights Campaign are representing the Kutzkos. The next court date is October 29.
