In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court stood by states and their right to determine eligibility for female sports based on biological sex, reports Fox News. The case was brought forth after trans athletes sued West Virginia and Idaho for access to girls’ sports.
For a long time, the American Principles Project (APP) has fought for female's rights to play their sports safely. APP has worked with 27 states to pass legislation banning men from competing in women's sports.
Katie Frost, political director at APP, spoke about all the years of hard work that the organization has put behind this issue.
“That's one of the things we specialize at the American Principles Project is identifying issues that move voters and support the American family long before D.C gets wind of it,” Frost says. “We were one of the first people to go out and run ads on this issue.”
The APP states that over 890 medals have been stolen from women by male athletes.
The APP website also includes a quote from the project's president, Terry Schilling, where he says, "Girls should grow up knowing they can compete, train, and win without having to share a locker room or the podium with a man."
According to polling data by Fox News, 68% of Americans support banning transgender athletes from women's sports, while 30% oppose it. That number jumps to 79% support in a January 2025 poll by The New York Times, with only 18% opposition.
Frost spoke on the positions that female athletes are put in when having to share private spaces with male athletes.
“Those are the voices that get so often overlooked because sometimes, when young women do want to come forward and say, ‘I'm uncomfortable, I don't want to be in this situation,’ their options are ridicule, to be told that they need to deal with it or that they may have to quit their sport if they don't want to share a space with a biological male,” Frost says.
