The U.S. AG’s legal action against New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul centers on the state's policy of allowing illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
It contains a provision that requires the state's Department of Motor Vehicles commissioner to inform people who are in the country illegally when a federal immigration agency has requested their information.

"What Bondi and what Tom Homan are arguing is that this tips off aliens. They know that immigration enforcement is coming after them and could potentially harm the agents and officers.

Arthur believes Bondi has a pretty good shot of winning the lawsuit, though it may take a while.
You might think that at “district and circuit court levels, both of which include a large number of judges who were appointed by Democratic presidents, he's probably going to find tough sledding. But I think that eventually this will get to the Supreme Court, and I think that a Supreme Court that showed itself under the Biden administration to be very hands off when it came to immigration enforcement is going to show itself very hands off."
