Will a small legal settlement wake up parent-hating woke schools?

The same California public school district where two teachers bragged about hiding LGBT activism from suspicious parents has settled a lawsuit with a mother who accused teachers of helping her daughter transition to a boy without her knowledge.

With help from attorneys at Center for America Liberty, Jessica Konen sued Spreckels Union School District earlier this year after learning her daughter, Alicia, 11, had “socially transitioned” to a boy named Skyler while attending Buena Vista Middle School.

This week, Center for American Liberty announced both parties had agreed to a $100,000 settlement over the case.

Mark Trammel, general counsel at American Liberty, says school administrators began referring to the student as Skylar and used male pronouns, changed the child’s sex on school documents, and allowed her to use a faculty bathroom.

“They were doing all of this without so much as getting consent, or even notifying Jessica, that this was happening,” Trammel tells AFN.

Harmeet Dhillon, a second attorney at American Liberty, told Fox News earlier this year the school “coached” Alicia and other middle schoolers about gender identity and adopting new pronouns in a school culture consumed with LGBT propaganda.

Konen, the mother, told Fox News she was immediately concerned about learning her daughter was researching terms such as homosexuality, bi-sexuality, and gender-fluidity. Then the mother learned two Buena Vista teachers were quoted in leaked audio instructing fellow teachers how to hide student participation in Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs from parents.

'I'm the one who controls the messaging'

AFN has reported about that 2021 conference called “Beyond the Binary” that was sponsored by the LGBT-aligned California Teachers Association, the state teachers’ union. The secretive strategizing only became public after the audio was given to journalist Abigail Shrier, who wrote a blockbuster story exposing the speakers who included two Buena Vista teachers, Kelly Baraki and Lori Caldeira.

In their frank talk with fellow teachers, Caldeira amazingly bragged that she controls the information that reaches parents because she oversees the morning announcements.

“I’m the one who controls the messaging,” she said of that role. “Everybody says, ‘Oh, Ms. Caldeira, you’re so sweet, you volunteered to do that.’ Of course I’m so sweet that I volunteered to do that. Because then I control the information that goes home.”

Caldeira also gushed how two students who gave those morning announcements are “non-binary” and one is “very fluid in every way.”

During her seminar, Baraki bragged how she changed the name of the LGBT club to “You be You” to throw off suspicious parents.

The name of their teachers seminar was “How We Run a ‘GSA’ in Conservative Communities.”

Both teachers were cleared of any wrongdoing earlier this year and the GSA Club’s activities resumed. A search of the school district's website suggested they are no longer employed there.

Trammel tells AFN he hopes others school districts who are deceiving parents are “waking up” after the settlement and realizing the financial liability they are creating.
