Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) recently released a statement planning to "fight against" TPUSA and their presence on their campus, reports Campus Reform. The statement calls TPUSA a "White Nationalist Organization," and it promises to "fight against TPUSA wherever they turn up."
The university, which officially recognizes SDS, has supposedly launched an investigation into their activity after fighting against TPUSA during a protest in April. The SDS claims they are being investigation, while the school has made no official announcement.
SDS said that the university's investigation is "nothing more than an attempt to scare us away from exercising our right to free speech on campus." Furthermore, they claim to have done nothing wrong and that TPUSA "needs to be smashed at every campus they turn up at."
According to the Student Organization Officer Handbook, registered organizations have the rights to assemble and protest, but only if it is “held in an orderly manner” and doesn’t disrupt campus operations.
Jeff Hunt, conservative speaker and radio talk show host, calls SDS's statement "heartbreaking" and says that the language of the statement shows the left's violent nature.
“We're seeing the left's true colors here — that they are violent, that they do want to smash out any type of dispute or disagreement, and that they aren't at all above using violence to achieve their political ends,” Hunt says.
He likened SDS to "power hungry hypocrites," noting it's rather ironic that they are claiming their free speech rights are being violated by MSU Denver. Meanwhile, they are actively trying to take it away from organizations that oppose their viewpoints.
Everyone, he says, no matter their political views, have a right to organize on campus until an organization turns violent against their opposition.
“If they want to engage in dialogue and free speech, 100% they should have their free speech rights protected. But just like we talk about the fruits of the spirit of being a Christian, the fruits of the spirit of communism is violence,” Hunt says.
